Zubie : Dashcam Distraction Detection

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Distracted driving remains a prevalent and serious issue on roads worldwide. Activities such as texting, phone usage, and other distractions significantly increase the risk of accidents. Zubie is dedicated to addressing this challenge through innovative solutions that leverage the power of artificial intelligence.

Distraction Detection Overview

Zubie's AI-powered dashcam is equipped with a sophisticated distraction detection algorithm. This technology can identify and analyze driver behavior to detect instances of distraction, including cellphone use, eating, drinking, smoking and tired driving.

Zubie dashcams are able to detect motions that look similar to certain types of distracted driving behaviors. However, the AI cannot definitively distinguish between actual distracted driving and something that just looks similar. Customers should always watch the video to verify a distraction before taking corrective action with drivers.

Zubie's platform counts a distracted driving event when the vehicle is in motion, and the distracted behavior is detected for 60 seconds. If the same behavior lasts for multiple minutes, you will see multiple distracted driving events.

In-vehicle device alerts

Zubie's dashcam can alert the driver when distraction detected. We are able to turn on a visual LED alert as well as audio "beeps" to notify the driver that a distraction was detected. Please contact support if you would like us to enable these device alerts for your fleet.

Zubie App Distracted Driving Alert Preferences

You can opt in to receive in-app notifications and email notifications of each type of distracted driving. Just go to your Zubie user profile, and access the Distracted Driving subsection of the Driver Performance Alerts. You can enable all or just some types of distracted driving alerts.

Please note: Zubie will track all types of distracted driving detected by your dashcam. This preference determines which types of alerts you want to receive when a distraction is detected.

Driver Insights and Reports

Zubie's dashcam, with AI capabilities, provides detailed driver insights and reports. Users can access analytics that highlight instances of distracted driving, empowering them to address specific areas of concern and implement corrective measures.

Trip Level Distracted Driving Information

You can access more details about any distracted driving event in a couple of places.

  1. Your Zubie notifications (if you have enabled notifications)

  2. Clicking the notification or accessing a specific trip will include distracted driving events on your Trip Map. The trip summary also includes a count of distracted driving events

  3. If you have enabled email notifications, the notification email also includes details such as the type of distraction detected, the date and time, the vehicle, and the driver if one was associated with that trip.

Distracted Driving Reports

Zubie offers advanced insights into how often your dashcams detect distractions. These insights are orgnaized by driver and by vehicle. These reports let you answer important questions to keep your drivers and vehicles safe. Want to know things like What percentage of trips included a distracted driving event? or How many of each type of distraction were detected? Just check out the Zubie Distracted Driving Reports.

Access your Zubie Reports section and look in the Driver folder and the Vehicles folder to find these two reports:

  • Distractions by Vehicle

Both reports offer summaries for the most recent 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days.
