Get Started with your Zubie Wireless Asset Trak

Updated over a month ago

Here are the complete instructions for getting started with your Zubie wireless Asset Trak device. For fastest setup, use the Zubie mobile app. The desktop interface does not include the new QR scan or VIN-validation options.

Step 1: Connect your asset or vehicle in the Zubie app.

  • Log into the Zubie mobile app or app.zubie.com on your mobile browser.

  • Use your mobile device’s camera or tap the QR scan icon in the top navigation bar to scan the Asset Trak QR code. The app now recognizes different QR types automatically and opens the correct setup flow.

  • Click the + button to create a new asset or vehicle. Then click “Create & Connect”. When creating a new vehicle record for your Asset Trak, you can now scan or enter the vehicle’s VIN. The app will validate it automatically and prompt for corrections if needed.

Helpful hints:

  • Zubie’s wireless Asset Trak behaves a little differently depending on whether you connect the device to a vehicle or asset.

    • Connected to a vehicle: your device will send data each time the device is in motion.

    • Connected to an asset: your device will send data every 4 hours.

    • Only vehicles have the ability to track and pre-plan maintenance work in the Zubie app.

  • Zubie’s support team can change how frequently your device sends data regardless of whether you connect it to a vehicle or asset. Just give us a call or contact us through the app.

Step 2: Start getting data from your device.

  • Take your device outside where you have a clear view of the sky. Press and hold the button on your device until both LED lights flash (about 5 seconds). This will force the device to send data to Zubie. Leave the device outside with a clear view of the sky for 3 minutes.

  • Check that your new asset is visible on the Live Map.

Helpful hints:

  • Once you’ve connected your device to your asset or vehicle, we need to tell the device to send data the first time. That’s why you need to do this second “long press.”

Step 3: Charge your device.

Fully charge your device on a wireless charging pad.

Your Zubie device comes pre-charged at 50%. We recommend charging the device fully so that the battery will last as long as possible for you.

Step 4: You’re ready to install your device

We recommend mounting your wireless Asset Trak with the mounting plate included in your package.

  • Magnet option: Secure the magnetic mounting bracket to metal surfaces. Our metals are designed to withstand significant vibration, and should stay secure.

  • Non-magnet option: For non-magnetic surfaces, you make use screws, nails or zip ties through the holes in the bracket to affix the mounting bracket to your asset.

If for any reason you cannot use the included mounting bracket, you may attach your wireless Asset Trak device using an adhesive. Be careful to use something that you can remove for recharging the device. As a last resort, duct tape around the outside of the device works.

Common Troubleshooting

  • If your newly created Vehicle or Asset are not appearing on the Live Map, try resetting the device again. To do this, bring the device outside with a clear view of the sky. Then press and hold the button on your device until both LED lights flash (about 5 seconds).

  • For vehicles that aren’t appearing on the Live Map, you may need to take a trip. Be sure to drive somewhere with strong cell service and a clear view of the sky.

  • If you are still having trouble, review our FAQ page or reach out to Zubie customer support with the device serial number.

  • If scanning the QR code does not open the pairing screen, ensure you’re using the latest Zubie app version (October 2025 or later). Older versions do not support the new multi-type QR logic.
