Smoke detection device attached to short cable
Zubie z-cable
You can set aside the long cable and T-taps. You will not need them for simple installation.
Pair the smoke detection device with the correct vehicle
Log into the Zubie mobile app or app.zubie.com on your mobile browser.
Use your mobile device’s camera to scan the QR code on your Smoke Detection device.
Please note, the QR code attached to the black and red cable will not work. Be sure to use the QR code found on the device itself that says Zubie.
This will open the window to Connect Device. Click the + button to create a new vehicle.
Enter the vehicle’s nickname, VIN, license plate and odometer information. Then click “Create & Connect”. You can use the camera icon next to vehicle name and vin to scan an image (like the vehicle’s VIN on the door sticker) to avoid typing this information manually.
Please note: The VIN entered here will appear on your smoke incident reports.
Connect the smoke detection device to the z-cable
Locate the small black plug at the end of the black and red wire attached to the z-cable.
Locate the small black socket on the short cable attached to your device.
Insert the plug from the z-cable into the socket of the device to connect your device to the z-cable.
Connect your devices to power via the OBD-II port
Locate the OBD-II port. Press the tabs of the OBD-II connector on each side, and push the connector out the back of the vehicle’s face plate.
Insert the largest OBD-II connector with the Zubie logo from the z-cable to the vehicle’s OBD-II connector you’ve just freed from the face plate.
Select the z-cable connector with clips that match your vehicle’s original OBD-II port connector. Snap it into place where the original connector was located.
Prepare to adhere the device to the windshield
Prepare the surface: With the provided cleaning cloth, clean the windshield surface in the intended installation area and let it dry completely.
Place the device on the windshield: The device should be placed on the passenger side of the overhead console or rear-view mirror, roughly 50mm (about 2 inches) from both the console/mirror and 50mm from where the windshield meets the headliner. Depending on the size of the installer’s hands, 2-3 finger’s width can be used to approximate this distance.
Please note: Compliance with the applicable standards can no longer be guaranteed if the device is mounted more than 50mm below the edge of the headliner.
Adhere the smoke device onto the windshield
Carefully remove the adhesive tape paper liner without disturbing its adhesion to the unit.
Place the top edge of the unit (edge facing headliner with cable attached). Slowly roll the rest of the unit onto the windshield
Press the unit onto the windshield with moderate pressure for at least 30 seconds.
Avoid touching the unit for 30 minutes to allow the adhesive tape to fully cure to the windshield.
Important notes about adhering the device:
Take care to prevent air bubbles between the windshield and the adhesive backing
The power cable and unit label must be facing upward toward the roof of the vehicle, or else functionality will be affected.
IMPORTANT: As stated in the safety guidelines, do not pound on the device for any reason as this could crack the vehicle’s windshield.
Check that your OBD-II telematics device is set up
Turn the vehicle on and allow it to idle for a few moments. Then you can turn the ignition off.
Sign into the Zubie mobile app or app.zubie.com in your browser.
Check that your vehicle is visible on the Live Map within Zubie.
If you don’t see the vehicle on the live map, you may need to take a trip. Be sure to drive somewhere with strong cell service and a clear view of the sky.
Set up your smoke detection preferences in Zubie
It takes approximately one business day for information from your smoke detection device to be visible in Zubie. We recommend you set up your smoke detection alert preferences right away, so that you can be notified when the first smoke incident occurs.
To set up preferences, access the “My Profile” section of the Zubie app. You can view more detailed instructions to set up your alert preferences here.
After one business day, here’s what you can expect:
The vehicle should be visible on your Zubie Live Map within one business day.
Once a smoking incident occurs in the vehicle, any alerts you’ve set up to receive via email or in the Zubie app will be triggered.
Smoking events will be available in the Activities section of the Zubie app.
